I love assisting families throughout the birth process! When the three of us are working together the birth family has a feeling of security as well as empowerment. My goal is to help you develop a flexible birth plan, isolating points that are important to you concerning how you labor and bring your child into the world—and then go about labor with those goals as our guide. It is my desire to help you make informed and comfortable choices based on your knowledge of options. ![]() Dads and Doulas ![]() I have found that many times it is "dad" that wants the extra help during labor. I really enjoy helping him help her. I do this by assisting him to find more comfortable laboring positions for her, by showing him soothing massage and counterpressure techniques to try, by reminding him of appropriate breathing techniques, and just giving him time to take a break from all of it, knowing that she is taken care of and in good hands while he is resting. When "dad" takes an active role in the birth process, he often feels much more confident as a father. He and Baby develop a special bond from the very start. When he feels confident and supported through the help of a trained doula, then "mom" is free to labor uninhibited of worries for him. They both feel secure in the doula's presence. ![]() ![]() - J. Lind, M.D. ![]() My Family ![]() What I love most in my life is my family and being a parent! My husband and I have three beautiful little girls. I have been a full-time mom since our oldest was 2 and I love it! I have never been so challenged as I have as a mother, but the rewards are GREAT! Outside of being a mother, doula and childbirth educator, I also volunteer at my daughter's school co-coaching a running team, Girls On The Run, and working in the classroom monthly guiding Art Heritage! My husband coaches both softball and tee-ball for our two older daughters, as well as coaching a variety of sports at the High School and Middle School levels. We are all very active in our church and thank God for all of our wonderful blessings! ![]() ![]() ![]() "With the assistance of Leslie, our wonderfully supportive doula, Amanda and I were able to achieve everything that we had set out to do with the birth of our daughter, Ashley. The three of us followed our birth plan without any deviation. After eighteen hours of peaceful labor Amanda gave birth to our 5 lbs 13 oz little angel without pain medication, intravenous fluids, epidural anesthesia, episiotomy, or caesarian section... Essential to this arduous process was our doula, Leslie Mantlo. As a physician, I thought I could handle anything, but when it is your beloved wife or partner in labor insecurity can easily creep into your mind. Leslie not only kept Amanda calm, but she certainly kept me calm. I absolutely could not have been the calm hypno-birthing coach that I needed to be without Leslie standing right beside me. Our doula assisted in massaging Amanda’s lower back for about 5 hours straight. She helped walk Amanda around the hospital, repositioned Amanda a million times, coached her into relaxation, alleviated our fears, helped get drinks, food, towels, linens and gave us the support we needed to have a natural childbirth. Her one-on-one attention to Amanda and I generated more and more confidence as the labor progressed. Leslie’s previous experiences with other births shined through and made us feel calm, collected and relaxed. We were so grateful to see her smiling face when we first checked into the labor and delivery ward. Hospitals can be intimidating, but with a familiar face everything seemed just right. Amanda and I plan on always having Leslie as our doula. We wouldn’t even dream of laboring without her essential support in the most exhilarating experience of our lives! Thank you, Leslie. BABY SLINGS ![]() When our baby was only a month or two old, a good friend and fellow doula/childbirth educator gave me a wonderful baby sling that she had made. We had been struggling with one we had purchased at a maternity store, experiencing back and shoulder pain, etc., but we were looking for a way to still do kangaroo-type care with her. This sling was a godsend. CLICK ON THE PHOTO for an enlarged view. If you are interested in purchasing one for you and your baby, please contact Becky Price. Please put the word "sling" in the subject box of your email. Enjoy! mbprice@peoplepc.com ![]() "I've slept better since knowing you're going to be there." Damon S. " I was a little skeptical at first, but having Leslie there made me feel more relaxed and taken care of. I wasn't worried about a thing; I knew my wishes would be a top priority. Little did I know that she would end up being a great friend afterward. Thanks, Leslie!" Jennifer Cirka "I felt really well cared for and supported. Many thanks for the very large and important role you played. It was wonderful having you there every step of the way. You are very intuitive about sensing what people need and being able to provide that..."
