Please feel free to send any ideas that you may have and we will post them here. Candles Burning a candle in your store will provide multiple benefits. It will create the "cozy" warmth of country and fill your store with great country scent. Second, you will sell more candles, as your customers will be able to see 1st hand how well they burn and how great they smell. We suggest burning a scent that would be compatable with most people, such as a bakery, berry or spice. If burning a candle in your store is not an option, a tart warmer (electric) is another great alternative. We would use both a candle and a tart burner, so that our customers would see the benefits of both. Educating your customers on "how to burn a candle" will guarantee repeat sales. Even though candles have been around for a long time, most people do not burn them correctly. This can lead to aggravation for them as they feel they wasted their money on "another bad candle". Whether you post a sign by your candles listing easy instructions or you tell them when they purchase, just giving them that information will be helpful to them and create more sales for you. Here's what we tell our customer: Do not trim your wick when you burn the candle for the first time. Let the entire surface melt before extinguishing the 1st time you burn it, this will create a "memory" for your candle to burn completely down the side of the jar. Keep the "mushroom" on the wick trimmed off. When extinguishing your candle, simply place lid on top to keep smoke from escaping into your home. Create a "Candle Club or Scent of the Month". Develop a plan that meets your customers needs. We offer a candle club, each member pays up front for 12 candles (we reduce the price per candle) and each month they come in and pick up their candle, the scent is their choice. They also receive a free gift for joining. The 2 biggest benefits to this plan are customer loyalty, they buy all of their candles from us and second each member comes in our store atleast once every month. Customers usually buy something more when they pick up their candle, this increases sales that may not have been made if that customer was only coming in your store every few months. Scent of the Month can be done in many ways, the most popular is to designate a scent for that month and take off 10-20%. Electric candles We find it helpful to light an electric candle for a display. It is difficult for customers to see how they work when they are packaged and not lit. Mixes Just as "seeing is believing", "tasting is believing". We keep a carafe of hot water and a jar of cappuccino mix in our store offering our customers complimentary samples everyday. If you are not able to do this each day, try doing it for an "Open House" or a busy holiday weekend. We also offer dip with pretzels, bite size cheesecake during special events. Our sales on mixes increased dramatically when we began offering free samples. Customers try it and they buy it! Lotions Offering a few "tester" bottles of lotion allows customers to not only smell the scent but to rub some on their hands. This also encourages customers not to use the bottles that are for sale. Choosing scents that will be compatible with most customers can be helpful. We have "free" tester stickers if requested that we can send to you. Potpourri & Rosehip Fix'ins If you sell potpourri by the scoop, placing some in a bowl uncovered with a small scoop on your "checkout" counter will encourage impulse sales. Also place some potpourri around candles in a display. General Tip Allow your customers to touch, feel, see, smell and taste merchandise and watch your sales increase instantly! | Return Home | Recipes For Mixes | Retail | Product Information & FAQ's | Contact Us | Wholesale | Guest Book | Link Page | |
