Carter Brittany Kennels is located in the heart of South Georgia with emphasis placed on training for and competing with our Brittanys and continuing the tradition and pleasure of fine hunting dogs.  We are located on a vast acreage of working farm and timberland and our dogs have free range of a large portion of this area during the day. At Carter Brittany Kennels, all of our litters are selectively bred for the betterment of the breed in hopes of producing champions to continue our passion for AKC field competitions. Our Brittany puppies are all from highly respected lineages as we place the utmost importance on quality bred and proven sires/dams.  All litters are champion sired with National caliber champion bloodlines and are carefully planned in order to enhance and amplify the qualities that we find desirable in a hunting dog. We expect all of our puppies to be natural, instinctive hunters that have an ultra keen nose with excellent stamina and exhibit superior ground coverage. They are also expected to be highly intelligent with a classic conformation, intensely stylish with a strong bird drive in addition to being loving companions and family pets. 

ABOUT US:  In brief, Carter Brittany Kennels is built upon the love of dogs and horses by licensed, practicing veterinarian Dr. Jim Carter and wife, Drew with the addition of our two sons, Caden and John Ashton. When we were first married, Jim was an avid quail hunter and would spend every weekend hunting on local farms.  We wanted to get involved in an activity that we both would enjoy but we didn't quite know if there was a hobby that could combine my love of horses with Jim's love of fine hunting dogs.  We began researching NSTRA (National Shoot to Retrieve Association) trials and attended our first NSTRA trial in 2004.  We placed 1st with AFC Bullet's Renegade Miss Megan at one of the first couple of trials we attended and Jim was hooked.  NSTRA wasn't very interesting for me though since I didn't have a dog that I could run so there was nothing for me to do other than watch the events of the trial from a chair.   

We bred AFC Bullet's Renegade Miss Megan in 2004 to 1997 National Amateur All Age Champion NAFC/FC/AFC Walkers Gunner.  We retained three of the puppies and began participating with the puppies from our first breeding in the fall of 2005 at AKC Brittany Club trials which allow both handlers and scouts as well as the gallery to ride horseback.  We easily became hooked on horseback field trials and in the preparation of our dogs for competition as a family sport and hobby.  We are tremendously humbled and thrilled by having accomplished what has never been accomplished with a single dog before in the history of Brittanys by obtaining the National Gun-Dog (Open and Amateur) Championship titles, the Magnum's Masked Man National Award, and the Tri-Tronics National Shooting Dog Award on 4x American Field Champion and 2009 National Open and Amateur Gun Dog Champion NGDC NAGDC FC AFC Peter Gunn who went on to place and be awarded National Judge's Award of Merit additional times at the National Gun Dog Championships.  We have also produced and campaigned other nationally awarded dogs which include National All Pointing Breed Walking Gun Dog Championship Best of Breed Sweet Georgia Brown, the 2014 National Open Gun Dog Champion 3rd place/highest ranking female in the National Open Gun Dog Championship and 2017 National Gun Dog Champion Runner Up - FC AFC Emma Tayshon, the 2013 National Amateur Gun Dog Championship 4th place dog and highest ranking female in the Amateur Championship FC AFC Twist'n Tequila's Shadow, and 2016 National Amateur Gun Dog Champion 3rd place dog and 2017 AKC All-Breed National Gun Dog Championship Best of Breed Winner FC AFC Nothin' But Trouble.  We have also placed multiple puppies in homes who have honored us and have gone on to achieve national placements, AKC field and conformational titles, NSTRA Championship titles, AKC Senior and Junior hunter titles, American Field Champions  - as well as other awards.

We have also obtained multiple placements on many of our other dogs and are actively campaining our young dogs in hopes of obtaining field champion and amateur field champion titles for them as well, which is certainly not an easy feat.  And, as everyone associated with this wonderful sport, we will always be chasing the dream of obtaining the next National Championship title. 

Carter Brittany Kennels is ever growing and expanding.  Jim is a licensed AKC registered Field Trial Judge and has been elected to serve term as the 4th Vice President of the American Brittany Club as well as being elected to serve as Vice President of the Georgia Brittany Club Chapter of the American Brittany Club.  In addition, we are members of NSTRA.   We compete in every trial we have the opportunity to attend throughout the south.   We also do the vast majority of our  own training which makes us extremely proud of our dog's accomplishments.  We would also like to thank Eukanuba Dog Food Company for selecting our kennel and NGDC NAGDC FC AFC Peter Gunn for a national ad campaign.
