What's Up

9/23/2009

We've been having a good summer here in Georgia - we've had pretty adequate rainfall and in the late summer the heat has been at least bearable.    We took May and June off from training and started back in late July.  We have a 10 month old boy of our own Caden James Carter who is taking up a lot of mine and Drew's time this year.  We've been trying to do as much conditioning on Pete as we can with our weather and are currently working him 4 days a week on birds and 3 days conditioning (we have a dog walker and I put the lawn sprinkler on him while he walks otherwise it's too hot to do anything) in an attempt to prepare for the ABC National Gun Dog Championships.  I'm also just starting to work with the Chesterette's and a male puppy of Pete's that belongs to Jeff Currier.   We also have another young dog by Multiple times NSTRA Champion Beeline Bullet's Bravado and a NFC FC AFC Shambo's Dark Shadow Daughter that we are starting as well.  I'll start running these puppies in field trials October 2nd at the Central Georgia Pointing Dog Club Trial.  At this point I think all these puppies are showing promise.   Lila will start her Derby career at the same trial she has been a slow starter but has started to get with the program this summer maybe she will remember what she's supposed to do once we get to the trial.   This past spring Opie had a sudden attack of Anterior Uveitis of unknown cause and lost sight in his right eye  he seems to be doing well with it, however it is a concern since he can't see brush coming on that side and he could easily do physical damage to that eye.  He and Megan will be 9 in December so he's an old dog and looks aren't that important at this point so if he damages it doing what he does best we'll just have to deal with it.  Bo is currently with Gina Currier in PA trying his hand in the show ring - he has given her a little bit of trouble since he's always been an outdoor bird dog he doesn't like to perform indoors which greatly limits his show ring potential since most shows are indoors.  Currently she is showing him at outdoor shows only.   Grace is expecting a litter in a couple of weeks which we have high expectations of hopefully she will have a decent sized litter as we have several people who have made deposits.   Hopefully this field trial season will go better than last we were unable to compete in most of our trials due to Drew's pregnancy (Caden was born right in the middle of the Fall season) and the loss of my mother during the spring season so we just didn't get to trial much as a result we only have 2 dogs qualified to go the the NGDC this year.   I hope to finish Megan as AFC this season she's not getting any younger you know - she spent most of her life hunting and doing a little NSTRA trialing so she got a late start in horseback trials she didn't start till she was 5 years old.  Wish us luck I'll update again after the NGDC.   Enjoy your fall!!!!!!       JC

Well it has truly been an exciting time here with our dogs.  We had hoped to someday win a National Championsip but we never anticipated having 2 in 10 days time.   I am extremely proud of Pete's accomplishment!  It kind of leaves one without direction when you have set a goal as high as a National Championship and you achieve that goal then you must set your sights on something new.  That came quickly with the Magnum Masked Man Award and the Tri Tronics award which we are currently trying to win.   Also we have started running the Chesterettes in puppy stakes and am very excited about their performances.   Hopefully we will see you all sometime soon during our travels.    Thanks JC

Our field trial season  is now over and what a ride it has been!  2 National Championships, finished 2 Amateur Field Champions(Opie and Megan),  won the Magnum's Masked Man Award, got all the puppy and derby points on the Chesterettes, Derby points on Lila, got Bo just one Brittany major from his field championship, elected 4th VP of ABC just to mention a few of the bigger things that happened.  This spring we intend to do the yard training and begin breaking Lila and the Chesterettes as well as doing some fine tuning on some of the other dogs game.   We are expecting a couple of litters as well as several litters sired by Pete and Opie.   Thanks for looking at our website and for taking an interest in our dogs.   Have a great summer!   JC
